James Southerland matched the school record with nine 3-pointers, scoring a career-high 35 points, as the visiting Orange held off the Razorbacks in the SEC/Big East Challenge.

Southerland’s two 3-pointers ignited a 12-0 run early in the second half to give Syracuse (5-0) a 15-point lead. Arkansas climbed back within five, but no closer as Brandon Triche and Michael Carter-Williams scored 17 each and took turns ending threats by the Razorbacks. Carter-Williams also registered 10 rebounds and nine assists.

C.J. Fair chipped in with 14 points for Syracuse, which finished with 19 turnovers. Southerland equaled the 3-point record set by Gerry McNamara and Andy Rautins.

BJ Young led the way with 25 points and Marshawn Powell added 19 for Arkansas (3-3), which lost its third straight game.

Southerland made six of his nine 3-point attempts in the first half and scored 22 points. The Orange led by as many as 15 in the opening 20 minutes before Young rallied the Razorbacks to within 43-38 at halftime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Syracuse has won 47 consecutive regular-season games against non-conference teams. … Arkansas was 1-of-10 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 5-of-24. …. The Orange will play eight of the next nine at home.
