Notre Dame 57, South Florida 53 (OT): An Eric Atkins 3-pointer in the final minute of overtime proved to be the dagger as Notre Dame delivered a blow to South Florida's NCAA at-large hopes in quarterfinal play at the Big East tournament at New York.

The third-seeded Fighting Irish (22-10) will face Louisville in the second semifinal contest Friday night.

Ahead by just one point late in the extra frame, Notre Dame came up with a big defensive stop when Jack Cooley blocked an Augustus Gilchrist layup attempt with just over a minute to go. With the shot clock running out at the other end, Atkins drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Fighting Irish a 54-50 cushion with 30 seconds remaining.

South Florida (20-13) took an early 20-8 lead before going scoreless for more than nine minutes as Notre Dame netted 18 consecutive points to go ahead by six with 3:54 left in the first half.

The Fighting Irish then went nearly 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half, but the Bulls were unable to pull ahead by more than five during that span and Notre Dame reclaimed the lead, 42-41, on consecutive 3-pointers by Alex Dragicevich and Pat Connaughton.

Connaughton and Jerian Grant paced Notre Dame with 12 points apiece. Victor Rudd Jr. led all scorers with 16 points in defeat.
