Illinois State 65, Wichita State 64: Tyler Brown hit two free throws with six seconds left the help Illinois State upset No. 14 Wichita State in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament semifinal.

Illinois State (20-12) will meet the winner of the Creighton-Evansville semifinal for the MVC tournament championship Sunday. The win was the Redbirds’ first over a ranked team since beating No. 14 Iowa on Dec. 29, 1987.

Brown finished with 25 points for the Redbirds, who trailed 36-28 at the half.

Illinois State started the second half on a 16-7 run. A 3-pointer by Nic Moore put Illinois State up 56-55 with 8:34 left, its first lead since 14:54 of the first half. The Redbirds made 5 of 13 3-pointers in the second half, and 7 of 21 in the game.

Garrett Stutz missed a shot from eight feet at the buzzer for Wichita State (27-5), which saw its nine-game win streak come to an end.

Joe Ragland led the Shockers with 17 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Illinois State shot 50 percent in the first five minutes, then went 0 for 11 and didn’t score a field goal for 12:12 until a 3-pointer by Moore made it 33-23 with 2:42 left in the first half. ...The Redbirds committed just eight turnovers to the Shockers 14. ... Illinois State's John Wilkins was ejected for picking up his second technical foul with 11:59 left.
