CLEMSON 58, VIRGINIA TECH 56: Tanner Smith scored 14 points and hit the go-ahead free throws as the host Tigers won for the fifth time in six games.

Milton Jennings grabbed 12 rebounds and Devin Booker scored 11 points for Clemson (16-13, 8-7 Atlantic Coast).

Jarell Eddie had 15 points for Virginia Tech (15-15, 4-11 ACC), which has lost eight of 11 games.

Smith hit two free throws with 2:45 left to give the Tigers a two-point lead. Neither team scored the rest of the contest but Virginia Tech’s Cadarian Raines was fouled with 2.2 seconds remaining.

Raines, who scored 12 points, missed the first free throw and then intentionally missed the second. Smith grabbed the rebound off a carom and time ran out.

Clemson scored seven straight points to take a 47-39 advantage on Smith’s basket midway through the half. Virginia Tech suddenly found its 3-point stroke with Erick Green hitting two and Dorenzo Hudson knocking down one during a 9-2 run that pulled the Hokies within 51-50 with 5:48 to play.

Virginia Tech’s Robert Brown hit two free throws with 2:55 left to tie the score at 56.

Virginia Tech had a seven-point advantage midway through the first half before Clemson rolled off 11 straight points. The Tigers led 33-31 at halftime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Green scored just eight points as his conference-best double-digit scoring streak was snapped at 30 games … Andre Young had two steals to raise his career total to 184 in his attempt to become the fourth player in Clemson history to reach 200 … Hokies forward Victor Davila (groin) missed his fifth straight game … The Tigers missed all 10 of their 3-point attempts.
