IOWA 78, INDIANA 66:
Torrid outside shooting from Matt Gatens short-circuited a second-half rally by No. 20 Indiana and allowed Iowa to pull away for an impressive home victory.

The Hawkeyes (14-13, 6-8 Big Ten) saw their 19-point lead trimmed to 52-42 with 8:14 remaining before Gatens, who scored 22 of his career-high 30 points in the second half, hit four consecutive 3-pointers over a span of less than three minutes to give Iowa a 65-46 cushion with 4:35 to go.

The Hoosiers (20-7, 8-7 Big Ten), who entered the game leading the Big Ten in scoring and field-goal percentage, suffered through what was easily their worst shooting performance of the season. Indiana had scored 103 points in a Jan. 29 home win over Iowa but shot just 37.7 percent (20 for 53) from the floor Sunday, well below its previous low of 41.8 percent in a Feb. 4 win at Purdue.

Iowa had entered the game as the most generous defensive team in the conference, allowing 72.3 points.

Melsahn Basabe contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots off the bench to help Gatens, who made seven-of-10 3-point attempts.

Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo scored 15 points apiece to pace Indiana, with Zeller adding 13 rebounds.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Hawkeyes have won seven of their last eight against the Hoosiers in Iowa City and five of the last six meetings overall... Indiana lost despite hitting 17 of 21 free throws in the second half... The Hoosiers host North Carolina Central in non-conference action Wednesday before traveling to Minnesota next Sunday... Iowa stays at home to face No. 17 Wisconsin on Thursday.
