MICHIGAN STATE 58, OHIO STATE 48: Adreian Payne led the way with 15 points on 6-for-6 shooting as the No. 12 Spartans snapped the No. 3 Buckeyes' 39-game home winning streak.

Michigan State (20-5, 9-3 Big Ten) played suffocating defense, holding visiting Ohio State (21-4, 9-3) to a season-low 26.4 percent shooting to pull into a tie atop the Big Ten.

Player of the Year candidate Jared Sullinger was under pressure all game and finished with a dubious triple-double - 17 points, 16 rebounds and 10 turnovers. He was 5 for 15 from the field. Sullinger's counterpart - Draymond Green - had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Michigan State set the tone in the first half, holding the Buckeyes scoreless over a nine-minute stretch to open up a double-digit lead. The Spartans forced four different stretches of at least four minutes without a field goal for Ohio State.

The most crushing drought came late in the second after the Buckeyes had drawn within 44-40 with 6:24 left. Michigan State would not allow another field goal for 5:10.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ohio State’s streak was the second-longest in the nation. … William Buford and Deshaun Thomas each shot 2 of 12 from the floor for the Buckeyes. … Michigan State gets another test when it hosts No. 22 Wisconsin on Thursday.
