Chris Babb broke out of a cold spell to score a team-high 17 points and lead Iowa State to a 77-71 victory over Texas on Wednesday night at Hilton Coliseum.

Babb, who had totaled only 17 points in the previous three games combined, scored 14 in the first half, when the Cyclones (11-3, 1-0 Big 12) jumped out to a 44-34 halftime lead.

Royce White added 14 points and six rebounds for Iowa State, which is on a season-high six-game winning streak and snapped a seven-game losing skid against the Longhorns (10-4, 0-1 Big 12).

Texas went on a 10-0 run to open the second half and tie the game at 44-44. But then the Longhorns went in a serious shooting funk, making only one field goal over almost an eight-minute stretch, as Iowa State opened up a 66-51 lead on White’s free throw midway through the second half.

Senior Clint Chapman shattered career highs with 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Longhorns, who cut the gap to as little as four in the final minute but couldn’t gain the lead.

Chapman had never scored more than nine points in his career. J’Covan Brown also had 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
