Rob Chubb had 21 points as Auburn erased a 14-point deficit to defeat Georgia Southern 78-75 Friday at Auburn Arena.

Chris Denson, who scored 19 points off the bench, made a pair of free throws with two seconds left to help secure the victory for Auburn (9-3). Ben Drayton had hit two from the line with three seconds on the clock to get the Eagles to within one at 76-75.

Georgia Southern (3-8), which dropped its fourth consecutive game and fell to 0-7 in road games, led 49-47 before Willie Powers (game-high 23 points) went on a personal 8-0 run to make it a 57-47 game. Powers’ jumper made it 69-66 at the 3:47 mark, but Denson sank two free throws, then his 3-pointer with 2:26 left in the game gave the Tigers the lead for good.

Midway through the first half, the teams were tied at 17-17 after a layup by Auburn’s Varez Ward, but the visiting Eagles took control quickly after that. While Auburn got sloppy with the ball, Georgia Southern went on an 18-4 run and took its largest lead of the half at 35-21 on a jumper by Cameron Baskerville at the 3:42 mark.

Georgia Southern, which dropped to 0-6 all-time against the Tigers, and lost its 19th consecutive game against SEC teams, got 20 points from Eric Ferguson.
