John Shurna scored 20 points as Northwestern remained unbeaten by holding off visiting Stony Brook, 63-58, on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats (5-0) saw a 10-point lead shrink to three in the closing minutes before JerShon Cobb hit a critical 3-pointer late in the shot clock to make it 58-52 with 1:24 remaining. Shurna and Drew Crawford hit five of six foul shots in the final 15 seconds, and the Seawolves (2-3) never got back within one possession.

Stony Brook shot just 31 percent in the first half but trailed by just two at the break, 30-28, thanks to nine second-chance points off nine offensive rebounds. The Seawolves grabbed eight more offensive boards in the second half, part of a 42-31 rebounding advantage overall.

Dave Sobolewski added 16 points for Northwestern, while Dallis Joyner and Leonard Hayes paced Stony Brook with 13 points apiece.
