Tim Frazier topped 20 points for the fourth time in six games, contributing a game-high 26 to propel Penn State past visiting Youngstown State 82-71 on Wednesday.

Trey Lewis added 12 points, and five players sank at least two 3-pointers to help Penn State start 5-1 for new coach Patrick Chambers.

Blake Allen's 25 points paced Youngstown (3-1) in the first meeting between the Big Ten's Nittany Lions and Horizon League's Penguins, who entered the night ranked 315th and 331st in field-goal percentage, respectively.

But Penn State bucked its shooting trend to take command, going 15-for-25 – including 7-of-10 3-point attempts – en route to a 44-26 halftime cushion. It was easily the highest scoring half this season for the Nittany Lions, who went 5-for-20 beyond the arc in Sunday's 53-49 victory over South Florida in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament in Connecticut.

The Penguins, on the other hand, again came out with an offense befitting their mascot – starting an icy 7-for-27 from the floor over the first 16:30 and falling behind by as many as 21 in the first half.

Kendrick Perry chipped in 23 points for Youngstown, which heated up in the second half but could not trim the deficit to fewer than nine points. Allen (seven) and Perry (five) hit 12 of the Penguins' 14 3-pointers.

Cammeron Woodyard had 10 points for Penn State, which finished 11-for-22 from the 3-point line and went to the foul line 31 times compared with nine for Youngstown.
