Senior Draymond Green registered 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as Michigan State cruised to a 76-41 victory over visiting Texas Southern on Friday.

Freshmen Branden Dawson and Travis Trice added 13 points apiece, and sophomore Adreian Payne had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the young Spartans (1-2), who dominated the boards 47-24.

Michigan State is 95-18 in home openers and coach Tom Izzo, in his 17th season, is 42-0 at home in November.

Omar Strong led Texas Southern (1-2) with 12 points.

The Spartans scored 12 of the first 13 points and never led by less than eight en route to a 32-12 lead at halftime. Trice led a balanced attack with eight points, making two of Michigan State’s six 3-point goals in the first 20 minutes.

Texas Southern, the defending SWAC regular season champion, was 4-of-24 from the field and 2-of-8 from the free-throw line in the first half.

Lawrence Johnson-Danner, who scored 20 points in the Tigers’ 66-49 victory over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, did not score before halftime. He finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
