Aaron White had 19 points and 10 rebounds as Iowa scored the first 10 points and never looked back en route to a 96-53 season-opening victory over visiting Chicago State on Friday.

The Hawkeyes (1-0) had dropped their past two season-openers after winning the previous 31.

Melsahn Basabe added 14 points, Zach McCabe had 13 and Eric May had 11 points and five assists for Iowa, whose bench scored 57 points

The Hawkeyes, who got only a combined nine points from the senior backcourt of Matt Gatens and Bryce Cartwright, led 43-20 at halftime after forcing Chicago State (0-1) into 17 turnovers in the opening half.

Jeremy Robinson scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Cougars (0-1), who finished with 27 turnovers.
