Mickey McConnell scored 28 points and Matthew Dellavedova added 24 as St. Mary's defeated road weary Mississippi State 94-72 in the Shamrock Shootout at Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Rob Jones scored 15 points and Mitchell Young had 12 for the Gaels (11-2), who led 51-34 at halftime.

St. Mary's shot 52.2 from the field, including 46.7 from 3-point range as McConnell and Dellavedova combined for 11 baskets from beyond the arc.

Ravern Johnson scored 26 points, including 11 for 15 from the free throw line, for Mississippi State (8-6), which has played in the Bahamas and in Hawaii since a 67-46 victory over Alabama State in its last home game Dec. 14.

Mississippi State was without forwards Renardo Sidney and Elgin Bailey, who were suspended indefinitely after they fought in the stands prior to the Diamond Head Classic game between Hawaii and Utah on Dec. 23.

The Bulldogs open their Southeastern Conference season at home against Alabama on Jan. 8.
