Jonathan Mitchell scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half and visiting Rutgers withstood a pair of furious DePaul rallies to notch a 68-64 victory on Wednesday.

Rutgers (14-15, 5-12 Big East) snapped a four-game losing streak and sent DePaul (7-22, 1-16 Big East) to its fourth straight loss.

The Scarlet Knights led 32-22 at halftime and by as many as 15 in the second half, but the Blue Demons got to within one twice, the last coming at 63-62 with 30 seconds remaining after a three-point play by Moses Morgan.

Rutgers sealed the win by connecting on five of six free throws in the final 26 seconds to garner its second Big East road victory.

James Beatty added 13 points for the Scarlet Knights and Dane Miller had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman Brandon Young scored a game-high 21 points for DePaul, which played again without leading scorer and freshman standout Cleveland Melvin, who is lost for the season with a thumb injury.
