Jorge Gutierrez scored a game-high 23 points to help California overcome an 11-point halftime deficit and defeat host Oregon 81-71 on Thursday night.

California (15-13, 8-8 Pac-10) committed nine first-half turnovers and trailed by as many as 16 points midway through the first half. The Golden Bears got hot after halftime, closing an 11-point deficit with a 12-4 run to start the second half, keyed by seven points from Gutierrez.

California took their first lead of the second half on Harper Kamp’s layup with 11:35 left in the game. Oregon tied the game at 65 with 4:21 left in the game, but went scoreless for nearly two minutes down the stretch.

Guard Brandon Smith scored a season-high 18 points and Allen Crabbe added 19 points off the bench for the Golden Bears, who shot 53.8percent from the field and have now won two straight games.

Tyrone Nared scored 16 points to lead Oregon (14-13, 7-8 Pac-10), which had its two-game winning streak snapped in the loss.
