Freshman James Bell scored a career-high 21 points off the bench as No. 14 Villanova held off host Seton Hall 60-57 on Tuesday.

Antonio Pena collected 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Corey Fisher scored 12 on 4-for-4 shooting for the Wildcats (20-6, 8-5 Big East), who had lost two straight and four of their last six.

Bell’s 7-for-9 shooting performance and four 3-pointers helped make up for the loss of senior guard Corey Stokes, who missed his second straight game with turf toe.

Jeremy Hazell poured in 16 of his 25 points in the first half and the Pirates held the Wildcats scoreless over the last 3:09 to go into the break tied 28-28.

Bell scored six points during a 9-2 spurt that put Villanova in control 57-48 with 5:34 left.

Seton Hall (11-15, 5-9) closed to within two points, 59-57, with 1:12 left, but Pena split a pair of free throws and Hazell missed a 3-pointer with seven seconds left.
