North Carolina State lost a 17-point second-half lead but held on at the finish to snap a three-game losing streak by beating Miami (Fla.) 72-70 Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.

In a matchup of two teams near the bottom of the ACC, the Wolfpack (12-7, 2-3 ACC) held a 55-38 lead with 12:33 to go. Miami (12-7, 1-4 ACC) used a 26-9 run to tie the game at 64-64 on Durand Scott’s layup with 3:57 to play. Scott then gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the second half with 1:07 left, his layup pushing Miami ahead 70-69.

The Wolfpack answered with 48 seconds left, retaking the lead at 71-70 on Tracy Smith’s layup. After a Miami turnover, C.J. Williams missed one of two free throws with 16 seconds to go, giving the Hurricanes a final chance. But Miami turned it over again on its final possession and lost for the fourth time in its past five games.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a 12-2 lead and were up 37-30 at half.

Richard Howell led four players in double figures for N.C. State with 17 points.

Malcolm Grant paced Miami with 23 points. Reggie Johnson added 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Miami plays host to North Carolina on Wednesday. North Carolina State plays Tuesday at Clemson.
