Mustapha Farrakhan's huge night led Virginia to an 84-63 win over Howard Tuesday at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va.

Farrakhan had been coming off the bench but returned to the starting lineup with a bang. The senior guard hit his first 11 field-goal attempts, including eight 3-pointers, and finished with a career-high 31 points.

Farrakhan wasn’t the only Cavalier (10-5) who was hot. UVa shot 66.7 percent from the field in cruising to its second straight victory. Joe Harris came off the bench for 16 points, and promising freshman guard K.T. Harrell added 14.

Howard (2-11) trailed by 13 at half and couldn’t keep the Cavs from pulling away in the second half. Mike Phillips led the Bison with 21.

Virginia leading scorer and rebounder Mike Scott missed his fifth game in the last six with an ankle injury. The Cavs are hoping to have the senior forward back for Saturday’s ACC contest against North Carolina.
