Will the real Georgia Tech men's basketball team please step forward?

Much like their season, the Yellow Jackets showed their split personality against visiting Mercer on Friday, but the good side came out for the second half to earn an 87-78 win at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.Glen Rice Jr.'s 23 points led the way, and Georgia Tech (7-5) went 27 for 35 at the foul line to withstand the Bears (3-10).

The Yellow Jackets hadn't played since a 62-57 defeat at Siena on Dec. 22. Snowbound Fordham had to cancel Monday's game at Georgia Tech.

They've shown promise at times, like their 13-point win over Richmond and mere four-point loss to now-No. 5 Syracuse, but have also had letdowns like against Siena and a 20-point drubbing by Northwestern.

Mercer capitalized on the Jackets' rustiness and shot 56 percent (19 for 34) in the first half while building a 47-41 halftime lead. Jeff Smith matched Rice's 23 points and Brian Mills added 16 for the Bears, who cooled off in only hitting 8 of 24 field goals in the second half.

Iman Shumpert contributed 15 points for Georgia Tech, while Kammeon Holsey and Jason Morris added 13 apiece.
