Matt Howard finished with a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds, including a 7-of-7 effort from the free-throw line, as Butler scored an impressive 83-50 win over Stanford Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.

Howard was one of three double-digit scorers for Butler (6-4). Shelvin Mack had 14 points and five assists, and Andrew Smith added 10 points and five rebounds.

The Bulldogs were tied with Stanford (6-3) with 14 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the first half, but Butler went on a 7-0 run in the next three minutes. Following two Jack Trotter free throws that cut Stanford’s deficit to 16-11, the Bulldogs scored nine in a row and effectively put the game out of reach.

Butler led 41-22 at halftime. They shot 26-of-57 (45.6 percent) from the field, including 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) from 3-point range.

Jeremy Green led Stanford with 16 points.
