Alex Tyus and Vernon Macklin combined for 39 points to lead No. 24 Florida past Kent State 65-52, Thursday in Gainesviille, Fla.

Tyus finished with a season-high 20 points, two games after going scoreless in an upset loss to Central Florida. Macklin entered the game averaging only nine points, but hit 9-of-12 field goals for his 19.

The Gators (7-2) led by five at half, but built a double-digit lead early in the second half and cruised to victory.

The Golden Flashes (7-3) got 14 points from both Justin Greene and Carlton Guyton, but shot just 34 percent from the field and remained winless on the road.

The win is Florida's second straight after the loss to Central Florida and comes against a Kent State team expected to contend for the MAC title.

The Gators will have nine days off until a showdown with No. 5 Kansas State. The Golden Flashes will look to rebound at home against South Florida Sunday.
