Elgin Bailey scored 21 points and Twany Beckham added 16 as Mississippi State edged Troy, 92-83, in overtime Friday.

Riley Benock added 16 points for the Bulldogs (4-0), who have a chance to build up an even more impressive record to begin the season with five more home games against small school competition before they finally hit the road on December 18 to play Virginia Tech.

Troy led 38-34 at the half, but Mississippi came back to tie it at the end, forcing overtime. The Bulldogs ran away with it in the extra session, putting up 18 points in the five minutes.

Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor, but Mississippi managed to hit 18-of-28 from beyond the arc.

Vernon Taylor scored 19 for the Trojans (1-4), who are struggling after losing all five starters from last season’s 20-win squad. Taylor is the only player left who averaged over 14 minutes of playing time in 2009-10.
