Boynton scored 21 points and Tyus added 19 to go along with seven rebounds for the Gators (4-1), who improved to 3-0 against the Owls all-time. Boynton scored 11 of his points in the first half and Tyus added 10, but Florida was only able to build a slim 34-32 lead at the break. The Gators were able to finally open up a little breathing room in the second half and they took a 57-47 lead on a pair of free throws by Tyus with 7:36 to play.

Erving Walker added 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and four rebounds for the Gators, who open a three-game road trip with a game at Florida State on Sunday. The Gators and Seminoles also tangle in football in Tallahassee on Saturday.

The Owls (3-3) got 17 points from Greg Gantt and had three other players in double figures but could never close in on the Gators down the stretch.

Raymond Taylor had 13 points for Florida Atlantic, which has dropped two straight and three of its last four.
