Arizona blew open a competitive game with a dominating defensive effort, holding Idaho State without a point for nearly 13 minutes en route to a 90-42 victory in its season opener on Sunday afternoon.

The Bengals (0-2), who came in with a 4-3 edge in the overall series, held their own in the early going, cutting the Arizona lead to 19-15 on a bucket by Deividas Busma with 11 minutes left in the first half. But the Wildcats scored the next 26 points, and didn't allow another bucket until the 18:04 mark of the second half.

Arizona continued to pull away even as it emptied its bench after the intermission, opening the second half with a 29-9 surge to expand the lead to 70-24.

Derrick Williams led a group of four Wildcats in double figures with 16 points in 20 minutes. Brandon Lavender added 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range, while Kyle Fogg and Solomon Hill scored 10 points apiece.

Busma finished with 16 points for Idaho State, which shot 27.6 percent (16 of 58) from the field.
