Four Iowa State players scored in double figures as the Cyclones improved to 2-0 overall by beating Alabama State, 74-47, in Global Sports Hy-Vee Tournament action at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.

With the win. Iowa State improved its overall record against 15-0 against Southwestern Athletic Conference teams. This was the first meeting between the two schools.

Alabama State (0-2) took the lead off the opening tip but quickly surrendered to the more potent Cyclones offensive attack. Iowa State built a lead as large as 28 points with just over 14 minutes to play in the second half and cruised from there to the win.

Freshman forward Melvin Ejim and redshirt junior guard Scott Christopherson led Iowa State with 15 points. Senior guard Diante Garrett added 13 points and redshirt senior guard Jake Anderson chipped in 10 points. Anderson added 12 rebounds and Ejim had nine boards.
