Anthony Rizzo stroked a score-tying RBI single, and Aaron Judge drove in the go-ahead run, leading the New York Yankees to a big eighth inning and a 3-1 win over the Marlins in Miami on Sunday afternoon.

Rizzo, who homered in his first two games with New York since being traded by the Chicago Cubs, came through again as the Yankees swept the three-game series. New York is 3-0 with Rizzo on the roster.

Miami's Sandy Alcantara was brilliant, pitching seven scoreless innings and matching his career high with 10 strikeouts. He allowed two hits and one walk, taking a hard-luck no-decision.

Anthony Bass (1-6) took the loss, allowing two runs, one earned in 1/3 of an inning.

New York's Joey Gallo, acquired from the Texas Rangers on Thursday, had gone hitless in his first 10 Yankees at-bats. He doubled in his 11th at-bat but was stranded in the seventh inning.

Reliever Joely Rodriguez (2-3), acquired as part of the Gallo trade, earned the win in his Yankees debut, retiring Magneuris Sierra on a ground ball in the seventh inning. It was the only batter he faced.

New York's pitching was solid all day as starter Jordan Montgomery allowed just one run in five innings, and four relievers -- Clay Holmes, Rodriguez, Zack Britton and Aroldis Chapman -- pitched scoreless ball. Chapman earned his 22nd save in 26 chances.

Brian Anderson, Miami's third baseman, had a rough game. He went 0-for-4, snapping his career-long 13-game hit streak. He also made a throwing error, leading to an unearned run in that decisive eighth inning.

One highlight for the Marlins was the fifth-inning single by right fielder Bryan De La Cruz. It was his first major-league hit.

Miami opened the scoring in the first. Miguel Rojas doubled over the head of Gallo, who played left field for the first time since 2019. Rojas, whose drive one-hopped the wall, went to third on Jazz Chisholm's infield single and scored on Anderson's RBI groundout.

New York's Brett Gardner greeted Bass with a leadoff single in the eighth. With one out, Giancarlo Stanton reached on Anderson's throwing error. The Marlins then brought in reliever Richard Bleier for a lefty-on-lefty matchup with Rizzo, who spoiled the strategy by slicing an opposite-field RBI single. Judge followed with his RBI single, giving New York a 2-1 lead.

The Yankees extended their lead to 3-1 in the ninth as Gleyber Torres singled with two outs and scored on Chisholm's throwing error.
