Joey Gallo slugged a tiebreaking three-run homer to cap a five-run fourth inning and the Texas Rangers snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night at Arlington, Texas.

Nathaniel Lowe hit a two-run double prior to Gallo drilling his 25th homer of the season. Gallo also threw two runners out on the bases from right field.

Dane Dunning (4-7) allowed two runs and six hits over 6 1/3 innings for the Rangers. He struck out three and walked two as Texas won for the first time since July 9.

The Rangers were closing in on the longest skid in franchise history before Tuesday's victory. Texas lost 15 straight games in 1972 when hitting icon Ted Williams was the manager.

The Diamondbacks have dropped two straight games after winning five of their previous six.

Arizona scored twice in the eighth off Spencer Patton to make it a one-run game.

Left-handed-hitting Pavin Smith bounced a single through the left side to drive in Daulton Varsho with two outs, bringing Arizona within 5-3. Eduardo Escobar followed with a walk before Christian Walker delivered a run-scoring single to right center.

Joely Rodriguez replaced Patton and induced Asdrubal Cabrera to fly to right to end the inning.

Ian Kennedy struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his 16th save as Texas ended its slide.

Arizona right-hander Taylor Widener (1-1) gave up five runs and five hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked five and struck out three.

The Rangers loaded the bases on a double and two walks in the fourth before Lowe smacked a one-out, ground-rule double over the fence to left-center to knot the score at 2.

Adolis Garcia flied to right for the second out before Gallo hammered a 1-0 fastball 443 feet over the fence in center to give Texas a 5-2 advantage.

The Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Varsho walked with two outs and scored on Kole Calhoun's double to left-center.

In the fourth inning, Walker singled with one out and moved to third on Cabrera's double to right. David Peralta followed with a sacrifice fly to right to score Walker as Gallo's throw went to third to retire Cabrera.

Gallo also threw out Calhoun trying to stretch a single into a double to start the game.
