Spencer Turnbull won for the third time in his last four starts as the host Detroit Tigers rolled to a 6-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday.

Turnbull (4-2) held the Yankees to one run on three hits and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings. A quartet of relievers held New York scoreless the rest of the way for the Tigers, who have won the first two contests of the three-game series.

Jonathan Schoop homered among his two hits and scored twice for Detroit. Willi Castro supplied two hits, a run scored and an RBI, and Jeimer Candelario also scored and drove in a run.

Yankees starter Deivi Garcia (0-2) gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits in 4 1/3 innings. Albert Abreu tossed 3 2/3 innings of relief, holding the Tigers to one run on two hits while striking out three.

The Yankees pushed across a run in the second inning. Gleyber Torres drew a leadoff walk and Gary Sanchez singled before Mike Ford walked to load the bases. Torres scored on Miguel Andujar's double-play grounder.

Detroit took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Schoop was hit by a pitch and Nomar Mazara singled. Garcia retired the next two batters but he walked Akil Baddoo to load the bases.

Castro's infield single brought in Schoop and a throwing error by second baseman Rougned Odor on the play allowed Mazara to score as well.

The Tigers made it 3-1 in the fourth inning when Eric Haase ripped a one-out triple to deep center and scored on Niko Goodrum's sacrifice fly.

Detroit increased its lead to five runs in the fifth.

Castro led off with a double and scored on Candelario's double to right field. He advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Miguel Cabrera's sacrifice fly. Schoop then crushed Abreu's hanging slider over the left-field wall for his fifth homer this season.

The Yankees left two runners stranded in the sixth.
