David Bote delivered a game-winning, opposite-field RBI single with one out in the ninth inning on Tuesday to lift the host Chicago Cubs to a 4-3 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers and secure a doubleheader sweep.

Justin Steele (1-0) earned his first major league victory, striking out two and issuing one walk in a scoreless ninth. That set the stage for Bote's fourth career walk-off hit to cap a frantic finish.

After losing the opener 7-1, the Dodgers were two outs away from falling in a three-hit shutout in the nightcap. But Craig Kimbrel blew a save opportunity, surrendering a game-tying solo home run to Max Muncy with one out in the seventh.

Until Muncy's blast, Jason Heyward's solo homer leading off the fourth had stood as the lone run of the game.

Edwin Rios scored on a wild pitch and Justin Turner drilled a pinch-hit solo home run on consecutive pitches in the eighth inning to put the Dodgers ahead 3-1.

Javier Baez hit a tying two-run shot against Mitch White with two outs in the eighth to keep the Cubs afloat.

Garrett Cleavinger (0-2) was the loser, allowing one unearned run and one hit in 1/3 inning.

Chicago loaded the bases in the fourth but did no additional damage. The Cubs did the same with no outs in the sixth but were unable to score, as Blake Treinen got a flyout and strikeouts of Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo to end the threat. Rizzo tripled leading off the fifth, but the Cubs couldn't cash in then, either.

Chicago stranded 13 runners while going 2-for-20 with runners in scoring position. Eric Sogard had two hits for the Cubs.

Making his first career start two days after logging a one-inning relief stint in his major league debut, Cubs right-hander Keegan Thompson stymied the Dodgers for 3 2/3 innings. He gave up two hits, walked two and struck out two in 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

Dodgers starter Trevor Bauer yielded one run and four hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out seven. Bauer has surrendered a home run in six of his seven starts this season and eight games overall.
