Mookie Betts slugged a pair of first-pitch home runs and had four hits and five RBIs to lead the Boston Red Sox past the visiting Minnesota Twins 6-2 on Wednesday night.

Betts had his second four-hit game of the year and matched his season high for RBIs, as Boston won for the fifth time in its past seven games. Eduardo Rodriguez (17-5) earned the victory with seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and four walks and striking out eight.

Eddie Rosario hit a two-run homer for the Twins, who lost for just the second time in their last 11 games.

Betts got Boston going from the start, homering to lead off the bottom of the first. He struck again an inning later, following a Christian Vazquez single and Jackie Bradley Jr. walk with his 25th home run of the season for a 4-0 lead.

Both of Betts' ambush blasts came off Twins starter Jose Berrios, who had his turn in the rotation pushed back a day for extra rest. The strategy didn't help, and Berrios found himself in trouble again in the sixth.

Brock Holt singled, and Mitch Moreland walked before Vazquez's RBI double drove home Holt and forced Berrios from the game. With one out, Betts stepped in against Cody Stashak and hooked an RBI single into left field to make it 6-0.

Berrios (11-8) was charged with all six runs in his five-plus innings, allowing eight hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

Rodriguez struck out the side in the first before pitching through traffic the rest of the way. He stranded men on the corners in the second and left the bases loaded in the fourth.

Minnesota finally got on the board against Ryan Brasier in the eighth on Rosario's two-run shot to get within 6-2. The Twins put two on with one out in the ninth, but Red Sox closer Brandon Workman came on and got a double play for his 11th save.

Twins outfielder Max Kepler exited the contest in the seventh inning with a chest injury.

The start of the game was delayed 47 minutes due to inclement weather in the area.
