Franmil Reyes belted a three-run homer and Mike Clevinger tossed 5 2/3 strong innings as the host Cleveland Indians recorded a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

Mike Freeman had an RBI infield single among his two hits for the Indians, who answered a four-run second inning in Friday's 4-1 series-opening win with a four-run third on Saturday.

Meibrys Viloria had an RBI double among his two hits for the Royals, who have lost four in a row and eight of their last 10.

Clevinger (9-2) allowed one run on four hits and struck out eight to improve to 8-0 in his last 10 starts. The 28-year-old also upped his mark to 3-0 against Kansas City this season and 9-0 in his career.

Rookie Oscar Mercado ripped a double into the left-field corner to lead off the third inning before advancing to third base on a wild pitch from Glenn Sparkman (3-9). Mercado came home after Freeman shattered his bat on an infield single that left third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert with no play at either home plate or first base.

Jason Kipnis walked to put two runners on for Reyes, who deposited an 0-1 slider from Sparkman over the wall in left field for his 30th homer of the season and third since being acquired in a three-team trade with San Diego.

Viloria doubled to right-center field to score Cuthbert with two outs in the fourth inning to trim Cleveland's lead to 4-1.

Cuthbert snapped an 0-for-40 drought with a one-out double in the sixth inning and advanced to third on a groundout to end the evening for Clevinger. Oliver Perez struck out Ryan O'Hearn to end the threat.

Humberto Arteaga scored on a fielder's choice by Jorge Soler in the seventh inning to bring Kansas City within a pair of runs.

Adam Cimber and Tyler Clippard bridged the gap to Brad Hand, who retired the side in the ninth inning to secure his 31st save and second in as many nights after squandering his previous three opportunities.

Jose Ramirez sustained right wrist discomfort after swinging the bat in the first inning and left the game.
