James McCann went 3-for-4 with a grand slam to help the Chicago White Sox post a 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night in Anaheim, Calif.

The 446-foot blast was McCann's second slam in three games and fifth of his career. The eighth-inning homer turned a 3-2 lead into a five-run advantage.

White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito struck out 11 in six innings and Leury Garcia and Tim Anderson each went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Yolmer Sanchez was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Mike Trout smacked his career-high-tying 41st homer for the Angels. He also is even with Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers for most blasts in the majors.

The Angels were just 1 of 12 with runners in scoring position while losing for the 15th time in the past 21 games.

Giolito (13-6) allowed two runs, six hits and three walks to win for just the second time in his past eight starts. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning to set the tone for an outing in which Los Angeles was 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position during his six frames.

Left-hander Aaron Bummer pitched two hitless innings and right-hander Kelvin Herrera worked a perfect ninth.

The White Sox put the game away in the eighth. Garcia and Anderson reached with singles and Jose Abreu reached on a fielder's choice as shortstop David Fletcher grabbed his grounder and short-hopped a throw home, allowing Garcia to scamper back to third.

McCann followed with his behemoth shot to left off right-hander Ty Buttrey.

Los Angeles left-hander Patrick Sandoval (0-1) gave up three runs and five hits in 4 1/3 innings. The rookie struck out three and walked one.

Chicago pushed across two runs in the top of the third inning.

Garcia delivered a leadoff double to right and scored on Anderson's single to right. Anderson was later on third base with two outs and was getting large leads and that allowed him to narrowly score on Sandoval's wild pitch to make it 2-0.

Los Angeles got a run back in the bottom of the frame as Fletcher notched a leadoff triple and scored on Shohei Ohtani's infield single.

The White Sox made it 3-1 in the fourth when Welington Castillo led off with a double, moved to third on Jon Jay's sacrifice bunt and scored on Sanchez's safety squeeze bunt single.

Trout pulled the Angels within one when he pounded a 2-2 slider from Giolito 438 feet over the fence in center with one out in the fifth.

Los Angeles had runners on first and third with one out in the sixth but Giolito finished his 113-pitch outing by retiring pinch-hitter Brian Goodwin on a fly to left and striking out Fletcher.
