Matt Chapman went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBIs as the Oakland Athletics won their fifth consecutive game, defeating the visiting Seattle Mariners 9-2 Tuesday night.

Matt Olson also homered for the A's, and right-hander Daniel Mengden (5-1) pitched seven strong innings, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Oakland improved to 8-2 this month.

The Mariners, who have lost five in a row, got their only runs on a pair of Omar Narvaez solo homers, in the second and ninth innings. Narvaez has 16 home runs this season.

Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales (10-8), who had beaten the A's in all three of his previous starts against them this season, including on Opening Day in Japan, was shelled for six runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out five.

Trailing 1-0, the A's rallied to take the lead in the third. With one out, Josh Phegley grounded a single into left field and Marcus Semien followed with a line-drive double to center, sending Phegley to third. Chapman then grounded a two-run single to left.

The A's extended the margin to 5-1 in the fifth. With two outs, Semien walked and Chapman hit a two-run homer to left, his 22nd of the season. Olson made it back-to-back long balls by lining a solo shot to right, his 20th.

Oakland added single runs in the sixth and seventh.

With one out in the sixth, Ramon Laureano lined a double to left-center that deflected off the glove of Mariners center fielder Mallex Smith. Gonzales tried to pick off Laureano, but second baseman Dee Gordon's throwing error allowed Laureano to score.

Right-hander Matt Wisler replaced Gonzales in the seventh and allowed back-to-back doubles to Semien and Chapman with one out to make it 7-1. Semien's double came on a pop fly to shallow right field that fell between three Seattle players.

Phegley added a two-run single in the eighth off right-hander Sam Tuivailala, who was making his season debut after sustaining a ruptured right Achilles tendon last August.
