Franklin Barreto capped a seven-run first inning with a three-run home run as the Oakland Athletics cruised to a 13-2 victory over the visiting Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon.

Robbie Grossman drove in three runs while Matt Chapman collected two doubles and a single, propelling the A's to their ninth win in their past 11 games.

After right-hander Chris Bassitt (6-4) pitched a scoreless top of the first, the A's wasted no time teeing off on White Sox righty Dylan Covey (1-5), with back-to-back, inning-opening doubles by Marcus Semien and Chapman for the game's first run.

A pair of walks set the stage for a two-run single by Grossman and an RBI hit by Chris Herrmann, giving Oakland a 4-0 lead and ending Covey's day just two outs into the first inning.

Barreto then sent reliever Ross Detwiler's third pitch into the left field bleachers for a three-run homer to bust the game open at 7-0.

The homer was Barreto's second of the season.

Covey was charged with six runs on four hits in his two-thirds of an inning. He walked two and struck out one.

The A's tacked on four runs in the fourth and one each in the sixth and eighth to complete their scoring. Grossman drove in his third run with an infield out in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Bassitt coasted through six scoreless innings, allowing four hits. Bouncing back from a six-run outing in his previous start at Seattle, Bassitt walked two and struck out six.

The White Sox did all their scoring in the seventh, when Jose Rondon had an RBI single and Yoan Moncada a run-scoring groundout against A's reliever Blake Treinen.

Matt Olson scored three runs, while Chapman, Semien and Khris Davis scored twice apiece for Oakland, which won the series opener 5-1 on Friday night.

Jon Jay had two hits for the White Sox, who lost for the fourth time in their past five games.

Oakland out-hit Chicago 13-7.
