Rookie left-hander Alex Young threw six hitless innings in his second major league start as the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies with a 5-3 win on Sunday in Phoenix.

Young (2-0) was taken out after six innings and 71 pitches. The 25-year-old struck out three and walked one -- Tony Wolters with one out in the third.

Young, who began the season in the bullpen at Triple-A Reno, went five-plus innings in his major league debut at the San Francisco Giants on June 27. He threw a season-high 96 pitches for Reno on June 10.

Young has allowed three hits in 13 1/3 innings for the Diamondbacks, including a relief outing at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.

Colorado broke up Arizona's no-hit bid when Trevor Story reached on an infield single on the first pitch of the seventh from reliever Yoshihisa Hirano. Chris Iannetta hit a two-run homer off Andrew Chafin in the eighth.

Story made it 5-3 with a leadoff homer in the ninth off closer Greg Holland, who set down the next three for his 14th save.

Young scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third when he reached base on a wild pitch after a strikeout, went to second on a passed ball and scored on Eduardo Escobar's two-out double that just got past the glove of first baseman Daniel Murphy down the right-field line.

Escobar had a single, double and a triple. Nick Ahmed had two hits, including his ninth homer, a two-run blast in a four-run sixth.

All-Star Ketel Marte led off the sixth with a walk and Escobar singled before Christian Walker drove in both with a double. Ahmed homered two outs later off German Marquez (8-4) for a 5-0 lead.

Marquez allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Arizona had lost eight in a row to Colorado before sweeping the three-game series to get above .500 at the All-Star break (46-45). Colorado has lost six in a row to drop below .500 (44-45) for the first time since May 28.
