DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit opened with consecutive homers in the first inning, James Paxton pitched four hitless innings in his return from the injured list, and the New York Yankees beat the San Diego Padres 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

LeMahieu hit his third career leadoff homer, hammering an 0-2 changeup by rookie Chris Paddack (4-3) into the left field seats. Two pitches later, Voit hit his 14th homer, slugging a 0-1 fastball over the left-center-field fence.

It was the 10th time the Yankees hit consecutive homers at the start of the first inning. The last time was July 7 of last season at Toronto when Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge did it off J.A. Happ.

Paxton, who threw a no-hitter in Toronto for Seattle on May 8, 2018, delivered his second career hitless start while working on a pitch limit after missing more than three weeks due to left knee inflammation. He struck out seven, walked two and threw 66 pitches.

Chad Green worked around a fielding error by shortstop Gleyber Torres to keep the no-hit bid intact through five.

The no-hit bid ended when Wil Myers opened the sixth off Adam Ottavino with a pop up that the second baseman LeMahieu could not corral in short right field. Two batters later, LeMahieu helped Ottavino pitch a scoreless sixth when he made a diving stop on Manny Machado's grounder.

Jonathan Holder (4-2) pitched two innings for the victory.

Gio Urshela and Torres also homered, and Gardner lifted a bases-loaded sacrifice fly as the Yankees claimed their eighth straight series. The Yankees also won for the 13th time in 16 games heading into a four-game weekend series against the visiting Boston Red Sox.

Cameron Maybin stole second and third in the sixth inning off former Yankee Adam Warren. He scored New York's fifth run on a throwing error by catcher Austin Hedges.

Torres padded the lead in the seventh with a two-run homer off Warren after Voit hit his first career triple.

Paddack lost for the second time in three starts, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings. Pitching on eight days' rest after missing his scheduled Sunday start in Toronto due to neck stiffness, he allowed a career-high three homers after entering the game having yielded four in 51 1/3 innings.

The Padres lost for the third time in four games since scoring 19 runs Saturday at Toronto in the final game of their five-game winning streak.
