Frankie Montas came within one out of his first career complete game, Mark Canha and Chad Pinder blasted two-run homers and the visiting Oakland Athletics overpowered the Detroit Tigers 7-2 on Friday.

In his 22nd career start, Montas (5-2) gave up two runs on four hits without a walk and struck out 10.

Canha also hit a two-run homer in the A's 17-3 victory on Thursday in the series opener. Khris Davis supplied three hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Miguel Cabrera and Josh Harrison had RBI doubles for the Tigers, who have lost five straight, all at home. Left-hander Daniel Norris (2-2) gave up six runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The A's left a runner on third in the second inning. Davis led off with a single and moved up on a wild pitch and groundout. Norris retired the next two batters with another grounder and a foul-out to the catcher.

Oakland broke through in the fourth. Matt Chapman reached on an infield single and moved up on Stephen Piscotty's opposite-field hit. Chapman advanced to third on Davis' flyout to right and scored on Matt Olson's fielder's choice grounder.

The A's made it 3-0 in the fifth. Jurickson Profar drew a leadoff walk before Canha powered a fastball to the opposite field over the right-center field wall.

Detroit didn't have a baserunner until the bottom of the fifth, when Cabrera led off with a double. One out later, he scored on Harrison's double.

Oakland scored three runs in the sixth. Davis singled with one out and scored when center fielder JaCoby Jones misplayed Olson's single. Pinder then smoked a Norris slider over the center field wall for a 6-1 A's lead.

The A's added a run in the eighth when Piscotty doubled off Sandy Baez, and Davis bounced an RBI single through the middle.

Cabrera ended Montas' night with a two-out RBI double in the ninth. Lou Trivino struck out Ronny Rodriguez to end the game.
