Starling Marte hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 13th inning Sunday to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 5-3 victory over the Oakland A's.

The game was tied 1-1 from the seventh inning until the 13th, when the A's took a 3-1 lead on Kendrys Morales' RBI single and Stephen Piscotty's RBI double.

Pittsburgh's Cole Tucker singled with one out in the bottom of the 13th against Fernando Rodney (0-2), and Jung Ho Kang walked. Adam Frazier drove in Tucker with a single to make it 3-2, and Marte followed with a shot into the bullpen in center.

The A's were without closer Blake Treinen because of a sore right elbow.

Pittsburgh starter Jordan Lyles pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up one run and five hits, with three strikeouts and three walks.

Tyler Lyons (1-0), making his Pirates debut, pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs and two hits, with three walks and a strikeout.

Oakland starter Frankie Montas was strong through six innings, allowing one run and five hits, with five strikeouts and no walks.

A's left fielder and cleanup hitter Khris Davis left after hitting a padded railing hard on his left side. Davis reached over the side wall into the stands to catch a foul ball hit by Adam Frazier, who was leading off the bottom of the first. He remained in the field the rest of the inning, but was replaced in the second by Chad Pinder.

Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead in the second. Josh Bell led off with a double to left-center, went to third on Melky Cabrera's groundout and scored on Colin Moran's sacrifice fly to right.

Bell was the Pirates' only baserunner through four innings. In the fifth, they had runners at first and second with one out, and in the sixth, they had runners at the corners with no outs but could not score.

Lyles was cruising with three hits allowed through six scoreless innings before Oakland tied it in the seventh. Nick Hundley hit a two-out double to left and scored on pinch hitter Robbie Grossman's single to left. That chased Lyles.
