Hunter Dozier had a pair of two-run triples, and the Kansas City Royals scored six runs in the third inning en route to a 9-4 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. The Royals had a season-high 15 hits.

Dozier had career highs with four hits and four RBIs for the Royals. He is the first designated hitter with two triples in a game since David Ortiz did it on July 22, 2004.

Scott Barlow (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Reliever Jaime Barria (2-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 1 2/3 innings.

The Angels had a lead two batters into the game. Kole Calhoun doubled to the gap in left-center to start the game. He scored when Mike Trout doubled to right field. With one out, Albert Pujols hit a sharp grounder to third. Kelvin Gutierrez turned his first major league chance into a 5-4-3 double play. Royals starter Jorge Lopez was helped by inning-ending double plays in the first and second innings.

The Royals got a run in the bottom of the second. Ryan O'Hearn led off with a double. He scored on a bloop single to left by Martin Maldonado.

The Royals got five runs before Barria recorded an out in the third. Dozier ripped a two-run triple, the Royals' major league-leading 13th triple of the season. Dozier scored on O'Hearn's single. Jorge Soler then got an "excuse-me" double against the shift that barely left the infield. The hit had an exit velocity of 60 mph.

Gutierrez, in his debut, picked up his first two RBIs on his first hit, a two-run single. When Adalberto Mondesi drove in Billy Hamilton with a two-out single, the game was over for Barria. It was the third time this season the Royals have scored six runs in an inning.

The Angels came back with three runs in the top of the fourth, but they left the bases loaded with the tying run on first.

Dozier's second two-run triple in the fifth stretched the lead to 9-4.
