Brett Gardner hit a tiebreaking home run with two outs in the fifth inning and the New York Yankees belted four homers in a 6-4 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

Aroldis Chapman converted his first save since June 20 by working around Andrew McCutchen's one-out solo homer in the ninth inning. Chapman fanned three and recorded his 17th save in 21 chances.

Gary Sanchez, Giancarlo Stanton and rookie Estevan Florial also connected as the Yankees won their third straight game and prevailed for the eighth time in 11 games.

Gardner gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead when he connected off Aaron Nola (6-6) for his fourth homer on a ball that just cleared the right field fence and landed in the first row.

Gardner was batting leadoff in New York's revised lineup after first baseman DJ LeMahieu (stomach virus) was scratched about 45 minutes before the game. The Yankees said LeMahieu tested negative for COVID-19 via a rapid test.

Greg Allen, who joined the team on Friday when slugger Aaron Judge was among six Yankees to test positive for COVID-19, also sparked New York. He reached base three times and scored twice.

Allen hit a triple in the third and scored on a groundout by Florial, who was called up from the minors before the game. Before Gardner's homer in the fifth, Allen scored on a throwing error by Philadelphia shortstop Didi Gregorius, who tried to get a double play after catching a liner by Tyler Wade.

Rhys Hoskins homered and Ronald Torreyes hit an RBI double for the Phillies, who lost for only the fifth time in their past 15 games. Jean Segura added an RBI single in the eighth off Zack Britton.

New York's Domingo German allowed two runs and three hits in four innings while making his first start since June 30. He walked three and struck out five. Luis Cessa (3-1) and was awarded the win after tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Nola returned from the COVID-19 list and allowed four runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings in his first outing since July 6. He struck out five and walked one.

Shortly before the game, the Phillies put relievers Bailey Falter and JD Hammer on the COVID list.
