Avisail Garcia homered and drove in three runs to lift the visiting Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Garcia belted a two-run homer in the first inning for the Brewers, who have won five of their last seven.

Freddy Peralta (5-1) recorded his first career complete game, allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts.

Washington lost for the third time in its last four games.

The Nationals fell behind early on Garcia's two-out, 378-foot blast off left-hander Patrick Corbin (3-4), who gave up four runs on four hits over five innings.

Milwaukee added to its lead with two runs in the third inning. Kolten Wong delivered a double to lead off the inning and moved to third on Willy Adames' fly out to right field. Christian Yelich drove in a run with his first triple of the season and scored on Garcia's groundout.

Garcia is batting .316 with six homers and 18 RBIs over his last 24 games for the Brewers, who were facing Washington for the first time since the 2019 National League wild-card game.

The Nationals got on the board with one out in the fourth inning on Kyle Schwarber's 439-foot blast into the third deck. It was his seventh homer in his last 18 games.

Washington had two runners on with one out in the third inning, but Peralta induced a double-play grounder from Juan Soto to end the threat.

Andrew Stevenson had two hits for the Nationals, who have scored a total of two runs in their last three losses. Kyle McGowin threw two scoreless innings in relief.

Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia exited the game in the top of the third inning with an apparent right leg injury. He was replaced by Josh Harrison.
