Matt Thaiss finished a triple short of the cycle and drove in four runs, and Kole Calhoun, Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Bemboom homered to back seven strong innings from Griffin Canning and lift the host Los Angeles Angels to a 9-2 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.

Los Angeles out-hit Chicago 15-7 in the series finale and won three of four games over the weekend.

Thaiss provided the only run support the Angels needed in a pitching matchup of rookie right-handers, drilling a three-run home run to right field against the White Sox's Dylan Cease with one out in the second inning.

Canning earned the victory to improve to 5-6, limiting the White Sox to one run on five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. He matched a career high by working seven innings for the first time since May 18.

Chicago was unable to match its offensive output from earlier in the series, failing to score five runs for the first time during the weekend.

Filling in for regular center fielder Mike Trout, who was out of the lineup for a day off, Los Angeles' Brian Goodwin struggled to track Eloy Jimenez's deep drive with two outs in the fourth. The play was ruled an RBI triple and was Chicago's first hit against Canning. James McCann, who was hit by a pitch one batter earlier, scored.

Los Angeles answered in the bottom half, as Calhoun launched a solo shot to center field to set a single-season career high with his 27th home run of the season.

It was the 10th home run Cease has surrendered in eight starts covering 44 innings. He fell to 2-6 with the loss, scattering five runs on seven hits in five-plus innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

Thaiss went 3-for-4 and hit a sixth-inning RBI double against Chicago reliever Ross Detwiler. Ohtani and Bemboom added two-run homers against Detwiler in the seventh and eighth, respectively. Luis Rengifo, Wilfredo Tovar, Goodwin, Calhoun and Ohtani added two hits each.

Jimenez capped the scoring with a solo home run against Adalberto Mejia with one out in the ninth. Tim Anderson had two hits for the White Sox, including a double.
