Ross Detwiler pitched five strong innings to earn the victory in his White Sox debut and James McCann and Eloy Jimenez hit two-run home runs to lift host Chicago to a 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.

Miguel Sano hit a pair of two-run home runs for Minnesota, including one in the ninth inning that summoned White Sox closer Alex Colome, who retired the final three hitters to notch his 17th save in 18 opportunities.

Jimenez's home run in the eighth added valuable insurance after Jon Jay and Jose Abreu contributed RBI singles during a go-ahead, two-run fifth.

Sparked by 1 2/3 innings from left-hander Aaron Bummer, the Chicago bullpen preserved the lead.

White Sox pitching loaded the bases with three successive walks with one out in the seventh inning after Chicago hadn't walked a batter in the first 6 1/3 innings.

Bummer helped the White Sox escape unscathed, though, inducing a 5-4-3 double play ball from Jorge Polanco to end the inning.

Jose Berrios took the loss for the Twins, but ultimately helped saved a beleaguered pitching staff that was one day removed from working an 18-inning loss.

Berrios (8-4) pitched 7 1/3 innings, scattering six runs -- three earned -- and nine hits without a walk and registering five strikeouts.

Detwiler (1-0) pitched five innings of six-hit, two-run ball with three strikeouts and no walks. The White Sox purchased the left-hander's contract from Triple-A Charlotte before the game.

Pitching for the Seattle Mariners in his most recent major league appearance before Friday, Detwiler notched a quality start in a loss to the Houston Astros on Aug. 21, 2018.

McCann's home run with two out in the first inning gave Chicago a 2-0 lead. Detwiler relinquished the advantage in the second as Minnesota responded with a two-out rally. After an Ehire Adrianza triple, Sano drove a two-run homer to left.

Adrianza went 2-for-3 for the Twins, while Max Kepler and Sano added two hits apiece.

Leury Garcia, Jimenez and Abreu each had two hits for the White Sox, who secured their first victory against the Twins in four tries this season.
