Manny Machado celebrated his return to Baltimore with a home run, and the San Diego Padres belted four overall while beating the slumping Orioles 8-3 on Tuesday night.

Machado played with Baltimore from the middle of 2012 until last July, when the Orioles traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers as his contract was running out. The third baseman/shortstop then signed a long-term deal with San Diego in the offseason, and he returned with the Padres for a brief two-game series at his old home.

Baltimore, which introduced No. 1 overall draft pick Adley Rutschman to the local media in the afternoon, put up a video montage saluting Machado before his first at-bat. The fans also gave him an ovation, and Machado waved from home plate.

Machado hit a solo homer in the third inning and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. The Padres also received homers from Fernando Tatis Jr., Manuel Margot and Francisco Mejia while breaking the game open early. Margot knocked in three runs.

The power display gave Logan Allen (2-0) a win in his second major league start. He gave up two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Baltimore leaned on its bullpen all night due to a shortage of arms, and opener Jimmy Yacabonis (1-2) took the loss after giving up five runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed the first two homers, from Tatis and Machado.

San Diego took charge with a four-run second inning after Trey Mancini's RBI single put Baltimore up 1-0 in the first. Margot keyed the two-out rally with a two-run single, and Tatis followed with a two-run homer.

Machado then crushed a 455-foot homer on Yacabonis' first pitch in the third for a 5-1 edge. Dwight Smith Jr.'s RBI double got one back for Baltimore in that inning before Margot hit a solo homer and Machado added an RBI single for a 7-2 lead in the fourth.

Mejia added a solo homer in the fifth, and Richie Martin did the same for Baltimore in the seventh.
