Keon Broxton's two-out RBI single capped a three-run eighth inning for the New York Mets, who came back to edge the Washington Nationals 6-5 on Saturday afternoon.

The teams have split the first two games of the Mets' first home series of the season.

The Mets squandered leads of 1-0 and 3-1 and fell behind 5-3 in the top of the eighth, when Anthony Rendon hit a leadoff homer against Jeurys Familia and Wilmer Difo hit a two-run, two-out shot off Familia.

But the Mets wasted no time coming back in the bottom of the inning, when Pete Alonso and Robinson Cano opened the inning with their first homers at Citi Field. The homers were the fourth and fifth for New York, tying a single-game high at Citi Field.

J.D. Davis, who hit solo homers in the fourth and sixth, singled before Wilson Ramos hit into a double play. Michael Conforto, who also hit a solo homer in the sixth, greeted Tony Sipp (0-1) with a double and pinch-hitter Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch before Broxton delivered the go-ahead single.

Familia (2-0) earned the win despite giving up the three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. Edwin Diaz earned his fourth save with a perfect ninth.

Davis had three hits while Alonso and Cano joined Conforto with two hits apiece.

Rendon had two hits and scored twice, including the Nationals' first run in the sixth when he doubled and scored on a groundout by Ryan Zimmerman. Washington pulled within 3-2 in the seventh when Victor Robles scored from second on a two-base passed ball charged to Mets catcher Wilson Ramos.

Adam Eaton also had two hits.

Mets starter Steven Matz allowed two hits, issued four walks and struck out eight over five scoreless innings. Nationals starter Patrick Corbin allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out nine over six innings.
