Austin Hedges and Manny Machado each followed walks with two-run, eighth-inning homers as the visiting Padres rallied to defeat St. Louis 6-4 on Saturday afternoon for a second straight win at Busch Stadium.

Cardinals pitchers issued 10 walks.

Hedges' first homer of the season followed an inning-opening walk by rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. Ian Kinsler drew a one-out walk ahead of Machado's second homer with the Padres. Both right-handed hitters reached the second deck in left off pitches from left-hander Andrew Miller (0-1).

The homers were two of four in the game and gave the Padres a 6-3 lead.

The Cardinals scored on Tyler O'Neill's infield single in the bottom of the eighth, but Padres reliever Craig Stammen retired Paul Goldschmidt on a grounder to second to end the threat with the tying runs on base.

Matt Wisler (1-0) picked up the win in his first outing since being acquired by the Padres in a trade with the Reds last week. Kirby Yates picked up his fifth save, allowing one hit and striking out one in the ninth, in the Padres' third straight win.

The Cardinals' Marcel Ozuna broke up a 1-1 tie with a two-run, fifth-inning homer into the second deck in left off reliever Robert Stock. Ozuna's first homer of the season came on a full-count breaking ball.

Eric Hosmer cut the deficit to 3-2 in the seventh with his first homer of the season, off Cardinals reliever John Gant.

Cardinals starter Michael Wacha issued a career-high eight walks while throwing 119 pitches in 5 2/3 innings. But the Padres scored only one run on three hits against Wacha, who struck out seven and worked out of jams in each of the first three innings.

Hunter Renfroe gave the Padres a 1-0 lead in the first with a RBI double, but Wacha wriggled out of a bases-loaded, out-out jam by getting Wil Myers to ground into a double play.

Padres starter Chris Paddack allowed a hit and an unearned run, walking four and striking out four, in 3 2/3 innings in his second major league start.
