Tim Beckham went 4 for 5 with a homer, double and three RBIs and Jay Bruce hit two solo homers as the Seattle Mariners defeated the host Chicago White Sox 9-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Right-hander Mike Leake (2-0) pitched 6 1/3 solid innings for the Mariners. Leake allowed two runs -- solo homers by Jose Abreu and Tim Anderson -- on nine hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.

Mariners relievers Brandon Brennan, Roenis Elias and Connor Sadzeck combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito (1-1) lasted just 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out four.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the top of the third inning.

With two outs, Mallex Smith walked and scored on a double into the left-center field gap by Mitch Haniger that extended the latter's hitting streak to nine games.

Bruce led off the fourth with a solo home run to right-center field. Edwin Encarnacion walked and Beckham singled, with both runners advancing on a error by center fielder Leury Garcia. Ryon Healy then blooped a double down the right-field line, scoring both runners to make it 4-0. It was the eighth game this season in which Healy has had an extra-base hit.

Abreu led off the bottom of the inning with a solo shot to left-center field to get the White Sox on the board.

The Mariners added three more runs in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead.

Haniger led off by grounding a single into center field. Two outs later, Encarnacion lined a single to right, sending Haniger to third. Beckham then lined a 2-2 pitch from right-hander Jose Ruiz just over the wall in left field.

The Mariners got a run-scoring single by Domingo Santana off right-hander Nate Jones in the sixth to extend the lead to 8-1.

Anderson led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer to center field.

Bruce hit his second homer in the ninth to cap the scoring.
