Chicago reliever Jeanmar Gomez's throwing error on a 10th-inning bunt brought home the game-ending run, and the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 4-3 win over the visiting Chicago White Sox on Monday at Kauffman Stadium.

Brian Goodwin opened the bottom of the 10th with a double to the right field corner. The next batter, Alcides Escobar, bunted to Gomez (0-2). The right-hander tried to get the out at third and instead threw the ball away, allowing Goodwin to score the winning run on a fielder's choice.

Jake Newberry (2-0), the last of three Kansas City pitchers, got the win after an inning of no-hit, one-strikeout relief.

Neither starting pitcher -- Lucas Giolito for Chicago and Jakob Junis for the Royals -- figured into the decision, even though both pitched well enough to win.

Giolito allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out three.

Junis one-upped him by throwing eight innings of three-run, seven-hit baseball in which he fanned five and did not walk a batter.

The Royals jumped to the lead in the bottom of the first inning on Whit Merrifield's solo home run. Kansas City added to the advantage in the second. With runners on the corners, Escobar hit a pop fly that dropped in front of Chicago right fielder Daniel Palka, who threw to second for a forceout as Jorge Bonifacio scored from third base.

The White Sox quickly erased that deficit and took the lead via the long ball. Adam Engel led off the third inning with a homer over the center field fence. Two outs later, Palka's round-tripper into the right field bleachers chased home Jose Abreu and pushed the White Sox in front 3-2.

Kansas City tied the game in the sixth on Ryan O'Hearn's one-out solo home run.

Abreu had three of Chicago's eight hits. Alex Gordon and Goodwin had two hits each to lead the Royals' eight-hit attack.
