James Shields pitched six scoreless innings, Tim Anderson and Daniel Palka each homered, and the Chicago White Sox cruised to an 8-0 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as the White Sox earned a four-game series split.

Xander Bogaerts had two of Boston's five hits, all singles, on the day. The Red Sox were blanked for the sixth time this season.

Shields (6-15) scattered four hits, walked two and struck out six. He has won two of his past three starts.

Red Sox starter Brian Johnson (4-4) could not make it out of the second. He gave up four runs on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings while walking one and striking out two. The southpaw's season ERA jumped from 4.02 to 4.36.

The White Sox seized a quick 2-0 lead in the first. Anderson lifted a wind-aided fly ball that drifted over the wall in left field for his career-high 18th home run. Several batters later, Kevan Smith singled to drive in Davidson.

In the second, Chicago scored two more runs to stretch the lead to 4-0. Adam Engel and Ryan LaMarre led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Davidson drove in both of them with a double to right-center field.

Yolmer Sanchez made it 5-0 in the third when he reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a single by Engel.

An unusual sequence in the fourth increased the lead to 6-0. Palka pulled a fly ball down the right field line that initially was ruled a home run. However, umpires convened in the middle of the infield and changed the call to a foul ball.

Several pitches later, Palka turned on another pitch -- and this time kept it just inside the right field foul pole. The redemption blast marked Palka's 20th homer of his rookie campaign.

In the sixth Jose Rondon picked up an RBI on a groundout to make it 7-0.

Sanchez capped the scoring with a run-scoring single in the eighth.

Red Sox relief pitcher William Cuevas left the game in the sixth inning because of heat-related illness. The temperature at game time was 87 degrees.
