Nicholas Castellanos had the first five-hit game of his career, including a go-ahead, two-run homer, and drove in five runs to power the host Detroit Tigers past the Chicago White Sox 9-5 on Monday night.

Castellanos rapped two singles and two doubles to go along with his homer while scoring twice. James McCann contributed three hits and scored three runs, while Victor Reyes and Jeimer Candelario each scored two runs and drove in another.

Louis Coleman (4-1) pitched an inning of scoreless relief to collect the win.

Detroit starter Artie Lewicki gave up three runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. Chicago's Reynaldo Lopez allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings.

Jeanmar Gomez (0-1) gave up the homer to Castellanos and took the loss. Adam Engel had two hits, including a homer, and scored twice, while Omar Narvaez added a solo shot.

The White Sox scored three runs in the third. The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the inning. McCann singled, advanced on a wild pitch and groundout, and scored on Candelario's sacrifice fly.

Detroit pulled within 3-2 in the fourth. Castellanos smacked a double to left and Victor Martinez ripped an RBI double.

Castellanos supplied a go-ahead hit in the fifth. The Tigers used two singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs. Jose Iglesias bounced into a double play as McCann scored the tying run. Castellanos made it 4-3 with his RBI double down the left field line.

Narvaez tied it in the top of the sixth off Drew VerHagen with his fifth homer.

Castellanos' 17th homer in the bottom of the seventh put the Tigers back on top. Candelario drew a leadoff walk against Gomez. One out later, Castellanos crushed a hanging sinker over the left field wall.

Engel cut Detroit's lead to 6-5 with his two-out homer to left off Alex Wilson in the eighth.

The Tigers scored three runs off Juan Minaya in the bottom of the eighth. Reyes had an RBI single, and Castellanos capped his big night with a two-run single.
